Why do we kill animals for fur? English talk by Kristina Mering (Estonia)

Don Bosco Saal: Main hall, ground floor

Sociological research about representatives of the fur industry.

As a long-term animal rights activist and student of sociology, I decided to write my final thesis about the fur industry. I conducted in-depth interviews with representatives of the fur industry – fur farmers, furriers and owners and workers of fur shops. In this presentation, I will present the results of my research. I will talk about how the representatives of the fur industry are able to continue their work and how do they create a story about why their industry is necessary. I will speak about their attitudes towards animals, how far do they think animal exploitation can go, is there a limit to what we can do to animals. I will also speak about the mechanisms that help this industry to continue in such a way. My purpose with this research is to share the knowledge with others activists so that we can understand this cruel industry better, so that we can be better activists in undermining it.
