The abolition of factory farming in Switzerland – ballot initiatives for animal advocacy.

In spring 2018, Sentience Politics will launch a ballot initiative demanding the right for animals to not live in factory farm conditions defined as animals living in large groups in crowded spaces and experiencing the violation of their basic needs. Since animal protection laws in Switzerland are among the top worldwide along with the notion of high quality agricultural standards promoted in advertising, the blatant existence of factory farming is easily denied and ignored. By means of political action and constitutional change, the initiative aims to ultimately improve the living conditions and quality of life dramatically for the currently 50 million farmed animals killed in Switzerland every year. This process will destroy the false images of animal agriculture by drawing media attention to the disastrous consequences of factory farming and start a nationwide discussion on speciesism.
