Surviving the authoritarian shift
Samstag 29. November, 11:00 Uhr: Vortrag im Raum Augarten
Authoritarian conservatives are securing their power all over the world. They are gaining momentum in their efforts to dismantle the pillars of democratic institutions that our work relies on. They are not only undoing decades of progress, but they are endangering our basic ability to organize and effectively fight for the animals. The talk will build a case, based on the firsthand experience of Humánny pokrok with rapid democratic backsliding in Slovakia and experience from other groups and movements, that this is not a business as usual, but rather a crisis that is quickly turning into the fight for survival for our movement. The talk will illustrate what we can learn from what has already happened and what we can do to prepare our organizations for the incoming attacks by the authoritarian governments. And secondly, it will put into question the long-lasting position of political neutrality in our movement and shine some light on what we might need to do very soon in order to remain capable of fighting for the animals.
