Wohin bewegt sich die Tierrechtsbewegung? Englischer Vortrag von Martin Balluch (Österreich)
Don Bosco Saal: Hauptraum im Erdgeschoß
Where is the animal rights movement going from here? Past, present and future of activism.
Many people have come and gone in the movement for animals, very few have stayed. There is a history well worth telling and learning from. In fact, already more than 150 (!) years ago, the first vegan outreach took place in Germany and most of the ethical arguments for animal liberation have been voiced even longer ago for the first time, with a special radical approach in the years between the world wars. The movement started up again in the 1960ies and 1970ies. Are we bound to repeat history or are we actually getting somewhere? What has happened in the last 30 years, have their been changes in tactics and what were the successes? Are we achieving lasting change or will it all start afresh in some decades? Martin Balluch has been active for more than 30 years, he has witnessed the murder of activists, was prosecuted himself and is still running campaigns for changing society with respect to animals and the environment. Where will we go in the future?
