Stefan Bernhard Eck, born 1956, is a German independent member of the European Parliament and a member of the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left. He lives in Saarbrücken (Saarland). He is a full member of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, a substitute member both in the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. Stefan Eck is a member of the Delegations for Relations with the People's Republic of China, South Asian countries, Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and for Relations with the Korean Peninsula. He is Vice-President of the Intergroup on Welfare and Conservation of Animals in the European Parliament and a founding member of the European Parliamentary advocacy group MEPs for Wildlife. His main activities comprise not only animal welfare and animal rights, but also human rights, food safety, climate change and protection of the environment. Stefan Eck, a vegan for almost 20 years, has been active for genuine animal welfare standards since 1997. He campaigned for the establishment of animal rights in our society as well as environmental protection and conservation. Since 2015, he is a chairman of the Peter Singer Prize Association for Strategies to Reduce Animal Suffering. Some of his political visions are: Animal Welfare and Agriculture improvements in legislation on livestock farming, abolishment of cruel animal farming (ending suffering of animals), ban on products and by-products from animal-torturing practices, ban on bullfighting, greyhound racing and hare coursing, ban on animal testing, promotion of animal-free organic farming, end of EU agricultural subsidies for farms with intensive livestock farming, end of direct or indirect export subsidies for dairy and meat, ban on trophy hunting.
