Ethical attitude towards animals: how to work with the cause but not with the consequence.
Quite often animal protection organizations are focused on solving practical problems related to abuses in the sphere of interaction between human and animals. But this way of action mostly doesn't affect the causes, therefore doesn't bring the due result.
We are convinced that the cause of cruelty towards animals is the anthropocentric worldview of most people. And the most effective way to destroy the anthropocentric myth is education.
The solution is related to ecological ethics, which considers a person's attitude to nature from the ethical point of view and gives these relations a moral assessment, forms a critical view of what is happening around. Environmental ethics has a unique educational potential, as it teaches us to live in harmony with nature and to respect any manifestation of life on Earth, helps us to understand the intrinsic value of all creatures in nature.
Center for the Ethical Attitude Towards Nature (Ecoetika) is the only non-profit non-governmental organization in Belarus that is engaged in education in the field of environmental ethics. In cooperation with schools, universities, libraries and the media we organize lectures, competitions, seminars, conferences, develop educational programs, publish popular scientific and methodical literature. We are proud of the fact that due to our activity, more than 50% of the university departments of Belarus refused to experiment on animals. And in 2016 the first Russian-language book entitled "Animals are not clothes" was published.
At the same time, it would be naive to believe that the attitude of people to the representatives of the animal world will change overnight. However, we are convinced that over time, more and more people recognize the duty of mankind towards nature. And this will be a sign of the refusal of mankind of the anthropocentric concept and its step towards spiritual and moral worldview.
